Most Affordable Compact SUVs In India: SUVs have become one of the most demanded vehicles in India because of their robust structure and better driving capabilities in comparison to smaller hatchbacks and sedans. Almost everyone looking to purchase a new car wants to buy an SUV or a micro SUV. Though, while considering the difference in size of SUVs and other vehicles, the prices of SUVs are usually hiked. Here’s a list of the most affordable SUVs available in India in 2023.
Tata Punch
Tata Punch comes at a starting price of Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) and is also one of the safest vehicles in India as per Global NCAP. It’s a 5-seater micro SUV. The Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 88 bhp/115Nm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission. The CNG variants use the same engine mated only to a 5-speed manual transmission to produce 73.5 bhp and 103 Nm.

Hyundai Exter
Hyundai Exter also comes at a starting price of Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). It is promoted as a five seater compact SUV and derives its power from a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83 bhp /114Nm. It is mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. It also comes with a 1.2-litre petrol-CNG option that produces 69 bhp/95 Nm, which is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Nissan Magnite
Nissan Maginite’s price ranges from Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 11 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is available with two petrol engine options: a 1-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 72 bhp/96 Nm of power and a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 100 bhp/160 Nm of power. A five-speed manual transmission is available across all variants and a CVT transmission option is only available with the turbo-petrol engine.
Hyundai Venue
Hyundai Venue is available from a starting price of Rs 7.77 lakhs (ex-showroom). Three engines are available for Hyundai Venue: an upgraded 1.5-liter diesel engine (116 bhp/250 Nm) paired only with a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 1.2-liter petrol engine (83 bhp/114 Nm) paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine (120 bhp/172 Nm) paired with a 5-speed iMT or an optional 7-speed DCT transmission.
Kia Sonet
The Kia Sonet is priced between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Kia offers three engine options with the Sonet; a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine (120 bhp/172 Nm), a 1.2-litre petrol engine (83 bhp/115 Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (115 bhp /250 Nm). The turbo-petrol engine is paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT transmission, the 1.2-litre petrol is connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the diesel engine is mated to a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
