Honda's Upcoming SUVs for India: What We Know?

Given the increasing popularity of SUVs in India's passenger vehicle market, Honda intends to tap into the SUV segment currently led by Tata, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra. With only one SUV, the Elevate (priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 16.15 lakh, ex-showroom), in its portfolio, Honda aims to steer its growth in India by bringing some global SUVs as well as those designed and developed with a focus on Indian customers.

The India-centric SUVs will spearhead Honda's aggressive product launch plan and will be heavily localised, according to Toshihiro Mibe, President, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. Placing India as its biggest focus after the US under its new global growth strategy, Honda will launch the 0 α (Zero Alpha) electric SUV in India in 2027. The electric SUV will be manufactured at the company's Tapukara plant in Rajasthan and will serve as the entry point to the 0-series lineup of EVs. It will also be exported to Japan and other Asian markets, thereby strengthening India's role as a strategic export hub. As for the global SUVs, they will be imported to India as Completely Built Units (CBUs).

Honda's aggressive 10-model product offensive will also include hybrids, offering a balanced approach to sustainable mobility. Considering the intense competition in the sub-four-metre segment, Honda is expected to introduce models for this highly competitive space. Moreover, Honda has also confirmed plans to launch premium models. While yet to be confirmed, the brand might bring back the Prelude and the CR-V, albeit in a new avatar.
