How To Drive On A Waterlogged Road:  While the northern states of India are going through scorching heat, the southern and north-eastern parts of the country have already received monsoon rains. The northern part of the country is also expected to receive heavy rains in the coming days. And while the heavy rains will bring relief from the scorching heat, they also bring some challenges, especially for car owners. One such challenge is flooded or waterlogged roads, and sometimes people endanger their vehicles and their safety while driving through. Here we are listing 5 tips that will help you keep you and your vehicle safe while driving through a waterlogged road.

Avoid Deep Waters

Ignore places with a large pool of standing water, as it can cause serious damage to your vehicle. If the water level is above the front bumper of the car and the door sill, try to reroute your journey through a better road. Most of the cars are not built for water wading, and attempting to do so will allow the water to enter the engine, which will eventually cause it to seize. However, if you HAVE to cross the way and you don’t have any other option, you can follow these tips.

Move Slowly

First of all, be patient and drive as slowly as you can. Remember, not driving fast is the key, so put your vehicle in a lower gear and move ahead slowly. Also, the second most important point is not to stall your vehicle. Don’t apply sudden brakes or accelerate quickly. Standing in a pool of water can allow it to enter the car, which might increase the chances of your vehicle getting damaged.

Do Not Restart Engine

By any odds, if you stall your car in a pool of water, do not try to restart the engine. Trying to restart your engine constantly can damage the engine of your vehicle. The connecting rods of the engine can break easily due to the high pressure of water. If you stall your car in a pool of water, get out and push the car out of the flooded zone.

Stay Calm If Doors Don’t Open

If your car is stuck in the middle of a standing pool of water, and the level of water is above the car’s capacity, the doors likely won’t open. In such a situation, you need to remain calm and take the following steps. If the water level is below the window area, open the window, get out of the vehicle, and get yourself out of the water. If you cannot open the window, find a sharp object or pull out the headrest (If your car has an adjustable headrest) and use it to break the window to get out of the car.

Use Brakes Once You Are Out

During water wading, water can enter several parts of a car, compromising its function. Once you get your car out, find some space and apply hard brakes for thrice or more. This will get the water out of your brakes, and your brakes will function properly. Additionally, braking continuously, once out of the water, allows you to check whether your brakes are functioning properly or not.
