Hyundai Creta Electric Long Term Review: As a thoroughbred petrolhead, the idea of cars going electric has never really sat well with me, but the Hyundai Creta Electric seems to change that perception in my head, one km at a time.
Creta - Hyundai’s flagbearer
The Creta nameplate for Hyundai in India has been a runaway success ever since its launch in 2015, and now in 2025, it reigns in the compact SUV segment in India and is the top seller for Hyundai in India with almost 19,000 units sold in September 2025!
While some brands have gone the made-electric route with new platforms and completely separate R&D for the EV variants, Hyundai has smartly revisited the ICE platform, and it just works.

The "No-Nonsense" EV
Our two-month evaluation, covering 3,500 kilometers across diverse driving conditions, was designed to test one fundamental question: Can an electrified version of a familiar, proven SUV truly offer a seamless, fuss-free transition for the average ICE buyer?
The answer, based on our metric-driven assessment, is a compelling yes. The Creta EV’s brilliance lies not in familiar design or raw performance, but in its conservative yet highly efficient engineering. It successfully merges the Creta’s renowned practicality and feature set with a refined, economical electric drivetrain, establishing a new benchmark for balanced, everyday EV usability.

Real-World Range: Validating the 400 km Benchmark
Range is the single most critical factor for buyers, and the 51.4 kWh Long Range pack proved to be highly dependable. While the certified ARAI figure sits at 473 kilometers, our standardized testing procedures confirmed a repeatable real-world driving range consistently hovering between 380km to 420km on a mixed city and highway cycle.
City Efficiency: The highly calibrated regenerative braking system, including the intuitive i-Pedal mode, allows the Creta to thrive in urban stop-and-go conditions. We recorded efficiency figures frequently exceeding 8km/kWh in peak traffic, suggesting a potential city-only range closer to around 450 kilometers. This exceptional efficiency minimizes charging frequency for daily commuters.
Charging Infrastructure & Endurance: Our test routine relied solely on a 1.3kWh standard power wall plug for home charging and a 60kW fast DC charger at the office. The standard 1.3kWh plug limits overnight charging to minor top-ups (recovering about 20-30 percent charge overnight)

Consequently, the readily available 60 kW DC fast charger at our workplace became critical for quickly replenishing the battery (0-80% in roughly 50-55 minutes), confirming that high real-world efficiency is best supported by access to reliable fast charging.

Driving Dynamics, Comfort, and Features
The driving experience is defined by refinement and accessibility, not aggression.
Refinement and Ride Quality: The NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) management is outstanding. The cabin noise levels are significantly lower than the ICE counterpart, enhancing the premium feel. The suspension, stiffened to manage the battery weight, manages to deliver a composed ride. Body roll is well-controlled, and the car maintains its poise, even over broken road surfaces.
Practicality & Packaging: The Creta EV shines here, maintaining the 433 litre boot volume of the ICE model and adding a practical 22 litre frunk (front trunk) perfectly sized for charging cables. This focus on uncompromised utility makes it ideal for family duties.
Feature Integration: The dual 10.25-inch digital screens and the Ioniq 5-inspired floating center console contribute to a modern, feature-rich cabin. The Level 2 ADAS suite proved effective on highway stretches, offering reliable driver aids like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist—features crucial for reducing driver fatigue on long hauls. This is something that I have been actively using, especially on my recent road trip to Mussoorie.

Key Observations and Areas for Improvement
While the Creta EV is a strong contender, our test identified areas where Hyundai could improve:
Wired Connectivity: The decision to retain wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, despite the premium positioning and large screens, feels like an unnecessary compromise in a 2025-model EV. Having said that, Hyundai now sells a wired to wireless adapter for around Rs. 3800, but that eats up the only USB type A port in the car.
DC Charging Speed (Observed): Our primary fast charging was conducted on a 60kw DC charger. While this rate is adequate (allowing the Creta to replenish 10-80% in roughly 50-55 minutes, it is still notably slower than the 100 kw + capabilities of some direct rivals. This remains a minor drawback for public charging infrastructure reliance, despite Hyundai promising a future upgrade.

Test Verdict
The Hyundai Creta Electric successfully achieves its mandate: providing a trustworthy, familiar, and highly competent electric SUV experience. It is a brilliant, highly efficient evolution of a market leader. It is the perfect vehicle for families making the switch from ICE to EV, prioritizing reliability, comfort, and real-world range over aggressive "EV-only" styling or blistering acceleration. It sets a high standard for how mainstream manufacturers can successfully electrify their best-selling models. With new variants at lower price tags being introduced by Hyundai in the Creta electric range, one can expect to see more of these around on the roads soon. Stick around for more updates on the Creta EV as it continues to be my daily driver for the coming weeks.
