Hyundai Creta EV: South Korean automaker Hyundai’s upcoming Creta EV has been spotted testing in India while being heavily camouflaged to conceal its final design. The upcoming Hyundai Creta EV is anticipated to be launched in the Indian market by January 2025, with production expected to start later this year at Hyundai’s Chennai plant.
Hyundai Creta EV - Design
Despite the camouflage, it’s noticeable that the Creta EV will share many design elements with its ICE counterparts. However, there will be some noticeable differences to distinguish the electric model. It is expected to sport a unique grille, revised bumpers and new alloy wheels designed for better aerodynamics, which will help improve the vehicle's range. Additionally, the Creta EV may come in new colour options to stand out in the market.
Hyundai Creta EV - Powertrain
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV will feature similar mechanical components to the latest Kona EV sold in global markets. It is likely to be equipped with a front-mounted motor generating a power output of around 138 bhp and 255 Nm of torque. It will be powered by a 45 kWh battery pack and will also have a front-mounted charging port. Although this battery capacity is slightly smaller than that of competitors like the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX, it is expected to deliver competitive performance. It is expected that this battery pack will deliver a driving range of 400 km to 500 km.
Hyundai has recently discontinued the Kona Electric in India, removing it from their official website. This move makes way for the new Creta EV, positioning it alongside Hyundai’s current electric offering in India, the IONIQ 5. Post its launch, the Hyundai Creta EV will compete with other electric SUVs in the market, such as the MG ZS EV, the upcoming Tata Curvv EV and the Maruti Suzuki eVX.
