No Hyundai Verna N Line For India

Since 2021, Hyundai has been annually introducing N Line models, commencing with the i20 N Line, followed by the Venue N Line in 2022, and the facelifted i20 N Line in 2023. However, despite speculation, there are currently no plans for a Verna N Line, as confirmed by Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai Motor India, reported Express Drives.

Garg specified that it is important to understand the market dynamics and trends in making such decisions. Garg said, “Hyundai has no plans of taking out a Verna N Line as for now”.The sedan segment in the Indian automobile market is currently diminishing with only 8 per cent market share. If we look at January 2024 sales figures, the Verna leads the midsize sedan segment with 2172 units, followed by the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia with 1879 and 1242 units, respectively. Therefore, it is not feasible for the manufacturer to launch an N Line model of the Hyundai Verna in the country.

Emphasis On EVs & Not Hybrid Vehicles In India

Additionally, the ongoing debate between investing in hybrids or embracing electric vehicles continues. Garg further revealed that Hyundai is presently concentrating on all-electric vehicles in the Indian market due to favourable FAME II subsidies. Garg affirmed that company strategies align with government policies, with the current focus remaining on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

While Hyundai offers a variety of hybrids worldwide, Garg emphasised that the Indian strategy reflects market trends, particularly as both Mahindra and Tata heavily invest in battery electric vehicles. He stated, "We have no plans to introduce hybrids because the India strategy is more geared towards BEVs. Hyundai has hybrid technology and vehicles for the global market, but BEVs are the future here." Garg also outlined plans to localise battery packs, aiming to decrease costs and facilitate the introduction of more BEVs in the future.
