The Indian automobile industry has been witnessing an increasing demand for electric cars in the country. To cater to this increasing demand, most automobile manufacturers have been launching new electric vehicles with extended range. However, despite having a higher range, there are four common mistakes that can reduce an electric car's range efficiency.
Driving At High Speed
Firstly, driving at high speeds at all times can significantly decrease the range of an electric car. Driving at high speeds not only drains the battery faster but also damages the battery and motor which results in reduced lifespan.
Overloading Your EV
Secondly, overloading the car with luggage or passengers beyond its capacity can also reduce its range. Excess weight puts strain on the battery, causing it to drain more quickly.
Don’t Drain The Entire Battery
Thirdly, it's important to avoid fully depleting the battery. Keeping the battery level between 10 to 20 percent and charging it before it gets too low helps maintain battery health. Repeatedly fully charging or draining the battery can lead to degradation and decreased range.
Avoid Using Fast Chargers
Lastly, frequent use of fast chargers can harm the battery over time. While fast chargers provide quick charging, they can affect the battery's capacity and reduce its range. Whenever possible, it's better to use a standard charger to maintain battery life and range.
By avoiding these mistakes and adopting good driving and charging habits, electric car owners can maximize their vehicle's range and longevity. It's essential to drive at controlled speeds, avoid overloading the car, maintain optimal battery levels and limit the use of fast chargers for better performance and efficiency.
