KTM is making a strong return to the big bike market in India, aiming to provide a premium experience for its customers. The company plans to set up dedicated dealerships specifically for its larger capacity motorcycles. Though KTM hasn't confirmed which models will be available, the 890 Adventure and 990 Duke are likely options for the Indian market. There's also talk of introducing the 1390 Super Duke R.

This move marks a change in KTM's strategy after stepping back from the big bike segment in India. KTM will initially sell its 400cc and above motorcycles through exclusive showrooms in select metro cities. This approach is designed to offer a superior buying experience for premium customers, separate from the sales and service of locally manufactured KTM models.

This strategic move by KTM could also open the door for Husqvarna’s larger bikes to enter the Indian market. Husqvarna, closely associated with KTM, currently sells its small-capacity bikes alongside KTM models in India. Introducing Husqvarna’s larger models, like the Svartpilen 801 and Norden 901, could strengthen the premium motorcycle segment in India.

In 2020, KTM sold 100 units of the BS4 790 Duke in India. Despite its higher price, the bike was sold and serviced through existing KTM dealers, which reduced the premium experience KTM wanted to offer. Learning from this, KTM’s new strategy with dedicated showrooms aims to provide a more refined and exclusive customer experience, matching the expectations of high-end motorcycle buyers.
