The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, or ADAS, is becoming popular among Mahindra SUV customers quickly. The company claims that more than 100,000 XUV700 customers picked the system. The XUV700's ADAS features include adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, front collision warning, smart pilot aid, and traffic sign recognition.

ADAS’ Unprecedented Demand

The unexpected popularity of XUV700's ADAS surprised Mahindra. Rajesh Jejurikar, CEO, expressed astonishment at the demand, with customers considering ADAS pivotal in purchase decisions. Jejurikar highlights ADAS' role in enhancing safety and comfort, making it a worthwhile investment. Notably, ADAS is bundled with the top-tier AX7 variant, potentially driving demand for fully-loaded models.

ADAS - Affordable, Safer and Comfier

With increasing affordability and acceptance, the demand for ADAS technology is on the rise. Rajesh Jejurikar expresses optimism about ADAS's utility even in challenging Indian conditions, envisioning its integration across Mahindra's portfolio. Upcoming models like Scorpio N, pickup Scorpio, XUV300, and XUV400 are likely to have this feature. Mahindra hints at future SUVs complying with SAE Level 2 Driving Automation, featuring brake, accelerator, and steering intervention, lane centring, and adaptive cruise control. Despite automation, driver supervision and intervention remain necessary as per conditions and guidelines.

ADAS - Challenges

Originally a feature of luxury cars like Mercedes and Volvo, ADAS systems now infiltrate mainstream vehicles such as Honda City, Hyundai Verna, MG Hector, Astor, ZS, Tata Harrier, and Safari. While embraced by customers, India's chaotic traffic and road conditions, along with drivers' limited understanding of the systems, lead to integration challenges. Issues span across manufacturers, including Mercedes' suboptimal emergency braking and Tesla's complaints. Despite complexities, correct usage of ADAS can enhance vehicle safety, even if it's not foolproof.
