Choosing between the Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz for highway driving hinges on several key factors. Both hatchbacks have distinct attributes that influence their performance on open roads.
New Maruti Baleno’s Driving Dynamics
The New Maruti Baleno boasts a range of engine options, including petrol and diesel variants, with the petrol engine displacement of 1197cc. The petrol engine produces 82bhp and 113 Nm torque. Within a few minutes of driving, you can feel that the Baleno's suspension is brand-new. Notable additions include a new rear torsion beam, new springs all around, an additional 20mm of suspension travel, and re-tuned damping at all four wheels. The resulting ride quality is more refined because it increases comfort at nearly no expense to handling.

Tata Altroz’s DCA Falling Short
The Tata Altroz on the other hand also provides two engine variants, the petrol and diesel alongwith 2 CNG engines also available. The Altroz DCA falls short because it simply isn't thrilling enough. A tiny car with a dual-clutch transmission, by extension, signifies a sporty little car, as Volkswagen first established with the Polo GT TSI and its 7-speed dual-clutch transmission – and more recently, the Hyundai i20 with its own 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. However, that isn't the case with the Altroz DCA, and it's not because of the gearbox; it's because of the vehicle's engine. Contrary to popular expectation, the Altroz DCA employs Tata's 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, normally aspirated petrol engine instead of the more potent 110hp, turbocharged petrol engine found in the Altroz iTurbo. Although the engine's 86 horsepower and 113 Nm are respectable numbers, it is not a motor that would be of interest to power users.

When pitted against the Altroz, the Baleno shines in terms of driving dynamics, spaciousness, and feature offerings. Notably, the Altroz has garnered an impressive five-star rating in GNCAP tests, yet this assessment doesn't encompass the car's complete safety scope. In contrast, the Baleno adheres to contemporary Indian safety standards, aligned with European norms, ensuring a commendable safety profile. Moreover, a notable upgrade in the new Baleno model is the introduction of a 6-airbag option, further enhancing its safety quotient.
