Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Safety: The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara electric SUV, the production of which was flagged off by PM Narendra Modi at Gujarat's Hansalpur plant late last month, has secured a 4-star safety rating in the latest rounds of Euro NCAP crash tests. With autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane assist, seatbelt reminders (standard for the front and rear), front airbags, and airbags for the knee, side head, side chest and side pelvis, in addition to an airbag cut-off switch, the e-Vitara received 77 per cent for adult occupant protection (AOP), 85 per cent for child occupant protection (COP), 79 per cent for vulnerable road users (VRU), and 72 per cent for safety assist systems.
The e-Vitara battery electric vehicle will be exported to over 100 countries from the Hansalpur plant, which will also manufacture for the Indian market. The EV will be launched in India in the current financial year.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Adult Occupant Protection: 31 Points
In the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment of the e-Vitara remained stable. Both the driver and front-seat passenger dummies received 'good' protection of the knees and femurs. In the full-width rigid barrier test, the head protection of the rear passenger was rated as 'marginal', based on the forward movement of the head. Nevertheless, in both the side barrier and the more severe side pole impact, the electric SUV provided 'good' protection to all critical body areas, scoring maximum points in this assessment category.
The control of excursion, which is defined as the degree to which the body is thrown to the other side of the vehicle during a collision, was found to be 'marginal'. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated 'good' protection against whiplash injuries in rear-end collisions.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Child Occupant Protection: 42 Points
In both the frontal offset and side barrier tests, the e-Vitara provided 'good' protection across all critical body areas of both 6- and 10-year-old dummies, scoring 42 points in crash tests for child safety. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position, with clear information to the driver regarding the status. While all child restraint systems were adequately installed, the EV missed out on 'child presence detection', a system that alerts others if children are left in the car.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Vulnerable Road Users
The protection of the head of a struck pedestrian or cyclist was largely 'adequate', with poor results recorded on the stiff windscreen pillars and at the base and top of the screen. The AEB system's response to pedestrians was 'adequate', but offered no protection to those to the rear. The system also performed well in tests of its reaction to cyclists, albeit with no protection against 'dooring', where a door is opened into the path of a cyclist approaching from behind. The system's response to motorcyclists was 'good'.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Safety Assist Systems
The AEB system demonstrated 'good' performance in tests of its reaction to other vehicles. The vehicle comes standard with a seatbelt reminder system for the front and rear seats. Also standard is a direct driver status monitoring system, which detects driver fatigue and types of distraction. The lane support system, which gently corrects the vehicle's path to keep it from drifting out of the lane, is also available.
Moreover, the speed assistance system identifies the local speed limit, and the driver can choose to set the limiter automatically by the system.
