Maruti Suzuki, a prominent name in the Indian automotive industry has revealed plans to export electric cars that are manufactured in India to countries like Japan and Europe, as per a report by Nikkei. They plan to begin exporting these cars to international markets in 2025. This is part of their plan to make India a manufacturing hub of electric vehicles for the world. Additionally, they will also share these made-in-India electric cars with Toyota, as part of their agreement to share technology and car models globally.

At the Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi, Maruti Suzuki showcased the eVX concept. This concept gave a sneak peek at Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV which will be produced in collaboration with Toyota. The upcoming electric SUV, based on the eVX concept, will be built on a 40PL Skateboard architecture. It is rumoured that this upcoming electric SUV will be manufactured for both Indian and international markets. The eVX concept based SUV will be powered by a 60 kWh battery pack and a smaller 48 kWh battery pack will be available for the entry-level model. The eVX is expected to deliver a driving range of approximately 500 km on a single charge.

According to the Nikkei report, Suzuki Motor Corporation aims to speed up the production of electric cars globally. The automaker’s goal is to export electric cars manufactured in India to Japan and Europe by 2025. Aligning with this goal, it is expected that the eVX concept based electric SUV will go into production in India by late 2024.

The report also stated that Suzuki is considering the possibility of providing the made-in-India EVs to Toyota which would then sell these cars as rebranded Toyota EVs. Suzuki's decision to make India its primary hub for manufacturing EVs is based on the major opportunities in India’s local automobile market and the significant cost advantages of manufacturing in India. Suzuki has also revealed plans to set up a new plant for manufacturing EVs in Gujarat. Maruti Suzuki, a subsidiary of Suzuki will be responsible for manufacturing EVs in India.
