Maruti Suzuki, one of India’s largest automobile manufacturers is gearing up to bring its first electric vehicle model in the country. Maruti Suzuki eVX was first unveiled for the first time at the 2023 Auto Expo. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the eVX will be launched in the Indian market by 2025. In addition to the eVX, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a fully electric minivan, scheduled to launch in the Indian market by September 2026.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki fully electric MPV has been codenamed YMC and will be the first electric MPV from the manufacturer. It is anticipated that it will be sharing its platform with the upcoming eVX and will use the innovative "27PL skateboard" architecture, jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota, which allows for flexibility in accommodating various body styles. Additionally, it is expected that the electric MPV will share battery pack options and electric motors with the eVX SUV. It is expected to feature 40 kWh and 60 kWh battery packs that will deliver an estimated range of up to 500 kilometres and will feature all-wheel-drive capability. Specific details about the upcoming electric MPVs design are not yet known. In terms of interior, the MPV is likely to share components with the eVX such as the dashboard and digital cockpit.

Apart from the upcoming eVX and electric MPV, Maruti Suzuki aims to introduce eight new cars, SUVs, and MPVs in the future, strengthening its electric vehicles lineup. Three of these vehicles will be fully electric, reflecting a significant shift towards electric mobility in Maruti Suzuki's portfolio. Ahead of the debut of the Maruti Suzuki EVX concept and the electric MPV, Maruti Suzuki is also expected to introduce hybrid variants of popular models like the Baleno, Fronx and Swift. These hybrids are part of the company's broader electrification plan, aiming to provide customers with a range of eco-friendly options.
