New Tesla Model Y Performance Debuts Globally With 580 KM Range, Bigger Touchscreen And More Upgrades

Tesla Model Y Performance Range: Tesla launched the standard version of the Model Y in India a month ago, with prices ranging from Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Cut to the present day, the brand has now unveiled the top-spec Performance variant, which will go on sale in the international market in the coming months. Over the standard version, the new Tesla Model Y Performance adds significant upgrades to make it stand apart. 

Tesla Model Y Performance: Motor, Output

Starting off, the Model Y Performance derives its 'Performance 4DU' dual motors from the Model 3 Performance, resulting in the power output of 454bhp (460hp, according to market reports from Europe). According to Tesla's official website, 0-100km/h takes 3.5 seconds, 0.4 seconds slower than the Model 3 Performance. The top speed of the new Model Y Performance is capped at 250km/h. 

Tesla Model Y Performance: Battery, Range

The battery has been redesigned as well, helping to yield a claimed range of 580km. The battery capacity is yet to be revealed, but Tesla claims that the revised battery features high-density cells. Tesla is also offering an 8-year or 1,92,000km warranty, whichever comes first.

Tesla Model Y Performance: Suspension

Instead of a frequency-selective damping system, the Model Y Performance uses new adaptive dampers (found on the Model 3 Performance) for improved handling.

On the outside, the Model Y Performance is marked out from the standard model by its carbon fibre spoiler, sportier bumpers, and 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 forged wheels with red brake callipers.

Move inside, and you will find sportier heated and ventilated seats with added bolstering, cushions, and extendable thigh support. Rear-seat occupants gain heated seats with powered seat recline. A larger 16-inch touchscreen with fresh graphics sits in the centre, while the second-row passengers benefit from an 8-inch display. The Performance also gets model-specific drive modes, better sound insulation, and a Full Self-Driving capability.

Tesla Model Y Performance: Availability

The newly unveiled Tesla Model Y Performance will hit European showrooms in October 2025. It will be manufactured at the company's Gigafactory in Berlin. The Indian market currently gets the Model Y AWD; it remains to be seen if and when Tesla will bring the Performance model to the country.
