Volkswagen, the German automobile giant, has introduced an all new avatar of its best-selling SUV, Tiguan for the global markets. The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has received significant updates, aligning its visual aesthetics with Volkswagen's current SUV lineup and has also introduced new technological advancements. Tiguan is Volkswagen’s highest selling model in their current line-up of vehicles. 

Volkswagen Tiguan - Design 

The new Tiguan, built on the updated MQB 'evo' platform, features 'IQ Light HD' Matrix headlights, shared with the Touareg, with 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs for illumination, and a slim LED light strip connecting them. The Tiguan boasts dual-tone alloy wheels, enhanced haunches, and a full-width LED tail-light. Its aerodynamics have improved, with a reduced drag coefficient.

Volkswagen Tiguan - Interior

The new Tiguan features an updated interior with a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 15.1-inch touchscreen equipped with the latest MIB4 infotainment. Physical buttons replace touch controls on the steering wheel for improved usability along with backlit volume slider and climate control buttons located at the base of the central screen. The slim center console gets a rotary controller with an OLED screen for adjusting chassis, powertrain settings and ambient lighting modes. The gear lever is now a column stalk, a design shared with the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.The new Tiguan also introduces ergoActive Plus seats with four-way lumbar adjustment and a 10-chamber pressure massage feature. They can automatically activate seat ventilation when outside temperatures reach a certain level.

Volkswagen Tiguan - Powertrain 

The new Tiguan offers multiple powertrains: 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel, and 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid. While exact power figures are not disclosed yet, the plug-in hybrid version has a larger 19.7 kWh battery with a 100 km electric range. It supports faster AC and DC charging. All Tiguan variants feature automatic transmissions, 6-speed DSG for plug-in hybrids and 7-speed DSG for others with standard paddle shifters.

Volkswagen Tiguan - Prices and India Launch 

The new Tiguan will be available in international markets in early 2024. In India, the current model costs around Rs 35.20 lakh. The next-gen Tiguan is anticipated to arrive in the second half of 2024, possibly with a higher price tag, nearing Rs 40 lakh, especially if the plug-in hybrid variant is introduced.
