Mandatory HSRP In Maharashtra: Fancy number plates in India are a popular thing and car owners consider them as a means of personalisation and distinction for their vehicles. Some individuals consider fancy number plates as a status symbol, associating them with prestige. With the fancy fonts and design, it sometimes becomes difficult to read what the actual number is.

Now after Delhi, the Maharashtra government has decided to make the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) mandatory on all vehicles across the state. As per the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Department, the HSRP fitting process will begin early next year and will be completed before the year is over. Officials are claiming that more than one crore automobiles in the state do not have HSRP installed.

HSRP contractors will establish centres across the state to assist with the fixing of number plates on automobiles. Once the centres are established, vehicle owners can schedule an appointment in advance through a mobile app to obtain the HSRP.

How to get your HSRP?

The contractor will need to have the vehicle's number plate ready at its facility within two days after a person schedules an appointment through a mobile app for HSRP affixation. The contractor will also have to update the information on the installation of the HSRP on the vehicle including the unique laser number (consisting of 10 digits), the tamper-proof number plate, the car's registration number and images using a mobile app after the HSRP has been affixed.

What are HSRPs?

A 10-digit unique serial number that has been laser-branded makes HSRPs tamper-proof. These licence plates are composed of a rare aluminium alloy with hot-stamped IND badging, an Ashok Chakra hologram and an India-inscribed retro-reflective film. HSRPs are fixed at the vehicle's front and rear. For four-wheelers, another chromium-based hologram sticker with the vehicle's registration information is attached to the windscreen.
