Hyundai has achieved a remarkable milestone as it can now manufacture and deliver cars within just six hours after receiving an order. This has been made possible by setting up factories that have minimal staff and are primarily driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and operated by robots. These AI robots are responsible for handling important manufacturing procedures. Hyundai demonstrated this advanced technological process at its new Innovation Centre in Singapore. Hyundai’s flagship electric car offering, the Ioniq 5 is being manufactured at this new factory.

Alpesh Patel, Head of Singapore Innovation Centre said, “This isn’t just a factory, it’s a customer experience centre.” These modern age electric car factories will cater to local city markets while strongly emphasising on customization and offering a top-notch customer experience. This transition is a significant part of the brand's strategy to move upmarket.

The manufacturing process begins at the 'Ioniq Lounge.' Here, you design and order your customised car. After that you are taken to a virtual reality room to see a computerised version of your car being made. Then the screen is lifted and you can see the real factory and your actual car being built. You even get to watch your car being test-driven on the roof track. Finally, your finished car is brought to you by self-driving robots. Commenting on this, Alpesh said, “We want to blend monitoring with prevention by 2027, we want this to be an autonomous being with a human to confirm, not react.” The plan is to let the AI take charge of daily tasks and future planning with the help of a human partner commanding the operations.

The new Innovation Centre is innovatively programmed to make different car models on the same production line without having to change anything. With the help of these advanced robots, the Singapore Innovation Centre functions smoothly with only 29 technicians. Even though they work just one eight-hour shift, they manage to make 70 cars every day.
