Maharashtra New Cab Rules: The Maharashtra government is mulling to impose penalties on those Uber and Ola drivers who regularly cancel rides scheduled by passengers. Uber and Ola commuters have raised concerns about the problem of drivers cancelling trips without giving any valid justification. People often find themselves in unavoidable circumstances as a result of this behaviour.

According to reports, the Maharashtra government's six-member committee, which was formed to overcome these challenges faced by commuters using Ola and Uber cabs, has put forth a list of recommendations in front of the government in order to curb these issues.

- The committee has suggested that cab booking apps should be penalised each time a driver cancels a trip without any valid justification. This is in contrast to the existing situation when a customer who cancels a ride is penalised heavily by apps like Uber or Ola.

- Additionally, it was suggested that the driver be given a window of up to 20 minutes to arrive at the pickup location and will be fined if they fail to do so based on how long they took to reach the pickup point.

- According to a Hindustan Times report, the committee has also proposed giving the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) the authority to eliminate a taxi service vehicle if it is determined that the vehicle is not fit for the road.

- The report further stated that the committee also recommended that every time a driver cancels a ride, the passenger should receive a rebate amount of Rs 50-Rs 75.

The Hindustan Times report further quoted an anonymous government official that these suggestions would not come into effect until the government approves them.
