Punjab Floods: If you are following the news about the flood crisis in Punjab, you must then know how incessant rains for the last two days, coupled with breaches in flood embankments, have created an emergency-like situation in the State. As a result, several villages across over 10 districts, including Amritsar and Gurdaspur, have been affected, leaving thousands of locals, including women, children, and the elderly, to their fate.
Punjab Floods: Indian Army to the Rescue
To tackle the ongoing flood situation, the Punjab government has roped in the Indian Army in the flood-affected districts to assist civil authorities in their extensive relief and rescue missions. That being said, the army brought in some reinforcements to aid in the rescue operations. With the army came the advanced amphibious, all-terrain vehicle, called the ATOR N1200, to the rescue.

Punjab Floods: ATOR N1200 in Action
Built by JSW Gecko Motors Pvt. Ltd. in Chandigarh, the ATOR N1200 recently made headlines with its ability to rescue stranded residents in flood-hit Punjab. The vehicle, operating under the command of the district collector’s office in Amritsar, was sent to the flood-affected areas in Amritsar and Sultanpur Lodhi, The Indian Express reported while quoting a JSW Gecko Motors spokesperson.
Such vehicles have been provided only 'in full support of the ongoing relief efforts being carried out by the civil administration,' according to JSW.

Punjab Floods: ATOR N1200 Features, Engine
JSW's ATOR N1200 is a specialist mobility vehicle designed for extreme off-road and amphibious operations. As can be seen in the video, the vehicle can reach areas cut off by floodwaters, helping the army move residents to safer locations.
The advanced all-terrain vehicle can accommodate up to 9 people, including the driver. It has a payload capacity of 1,200kg and towing capability of 2,350kg. Featuring a high-strength Docol steel frame, the ATOR N1200 sits on huge 1.8-metre-high low-pressure tyres, which can function both as floatation devices and propellers. This enables the vehicle to navigate diverse terrains, including marshes, snow, and ridges.
Powering the ATOR N100 is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, diesel engine, which makes 55bhp and 190Nm using a 6-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle has a top speed of about 40km/h on land and 6km/h in water. It features a unique skid-steering mechanism for expert manoeuvring across terrains. It can hold up to 232 litres of fuel.
