You may feel secure knowing that today's cars are far safer than ever before whether you're looking to purchase a new sedan, hatchback, or sports utility vehicle (SUV). Safety features, which were long seen to be a luxury, now are being incorporated by manufacturers in a majority of cars in India. The safety features include airbags, ISOFIX mounts, strong structural integrity, driver assistance features, etc. These are designed to effectively reduce impact during a crash or even stop one from happening.

The top safest vehicles in India according to the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP) rating are listed below.

Volkswagen Virtus/Skoda Slavia

With a few modifications of the exterior styling, the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia are similar cars that share the majority of their components. With remarkable ratings of 29.71 and 42 points, respectively in the Global NCAP test, the Virtus and Slavia earned a 5-star rating in the categories for adult and kid occupants, making them the safest cars in India.

Skoda Kushaq/Volkswagen Taigun 

Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are sister models that share the majority of their components. With exceptional ratings of 29.64 and 42 in the Global NCAP test for adult and kid passengers, respectively, the Kushaq and Taigun earned a 5-star rating, placing them among India's top safety cars.

Mahindra Scorpio N 

Mahindra Scorpio-N is the latest version of the renowned SUV that has been available in the Indian market for nearly 20 years. The Scorpio-N SUV just passed a Global NCAP test under the revised test protocols, and it achieved a remarkable 5-star rating with 29.25 out of a maximum 34 points in the adult occupants category and a 28.93 out of a maximum 49 points, earning it a 3-star rating in the child occupants category. 

Tata Punch

Tata Motors' entry-level SUV, the Tata Punch, competes in the micro SUV market. The Tata Punch is the latest addition to the list of India's safest cars; with a 5-star rating in the AOP category, it scored an outstanding 16.45 out of a maximum 17 points and a 4-star rating of 40.89 out of a possible 49 points in the COP category.

Mahindra XUV 300

The Mahindra XUV300 is the brand's first car to be given a 5-star rating by GNCAP. In the AOP category, the XUV300 earned a 5-star rating with a score of 16.42 out of maximum 17 points and a 4-star rating with a total score of 37.44 out of a maximum 49 in the COP category.
