BMW has revealed its i7 Protection which is based on the latest 7 Series and i7 sedan. The i7 Protection, according to the German luxury automaker, is the first ever protective automobile with an all-electric powertrain. This vehicle, which is being made at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany, is said to be able to survive bullets with armour-piercing capabilities.
Bulletproof Electric Power
The VR9 certification process, one of the highest levels of explosive evaluation for passenger automobiles, was applied to the BMW i7 Protection. The car's body was punctured with hundreds of bullet holes, but the interior remained unharmed, according to pictures released by the manufacturer. Despite being structurally unharmed, the window glasses appeared severely broken as a result of the gunshot hits. Additionally, neither the floor nor the seats had any glass fragments on them. This revealed the degree of safety the vehicle provides.
Armoured Steel Exterior
BMW claims that the i7 Protection's body is made from armoured steel. It is claimed to withstand 7.62 X 54 R ammunition. To protect the occupants inside the cabin, the exterior of the sedan comprises hot-formed steel alloy, while the roof and underbody of the car also get armoured materials for protection from aerial attacks and explosives.
Fuel Tank Security
Besides the pure electric i7, the internal combustion engine powered 7 Series too gets the same treatment. Being powered by highly combustible fossil fuel, it gets a special casing for the fuel tank that can seal itself upon being hit by a bullet to prevent fuel loss.
Purpose-Built Tire Technology
Special, purpose-built tires are included with the BMW i7 Protection. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels covered in Michelin PAX run-flat tires, which, according to the company, can still go at 80 kmph even if all of their air pressure is lost.
The i7 Protection's safety features, according to BMW, are as concealed as possible.
Customers of this protection sedan, according to the automobile manufacturer, have the option of enhancing their vehicles with extras like radio transceivers, mashing lights, automated and manual fire extinguishers, fresh air delivery systems, and fire extinguishers, among other things.
