Skoda India has selected 10 potential names for its upcoming sub-compact SUV in India after inviting suggestions from social media users. This SUV aims to compete with popular models like Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO. Skoda plans to launch this new SUV next year, with a global debut set for March 2025.

Earlier this year, Skoda revealed its intention to enter the highly competitive SUV segment by developing a new model based on the same platform as its flagship models, the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan. After receiving over two lakh entries on social media and shortlisting 15 names, Skoda has now finalised 10 names for the upcoming SUV. These include Kylaq, Kymaq, Kwiq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kosmiq, Kaiq, Kayaq, Kliq, and Karmiq. Among these, Skoda suggested five names itself during the initial announcement.

The selected names for the new SUV follow Skoda's naming convention seen in its global models like the Kushaq and Kodiaq, all starting with 'K' and ending with 'Q'. In India, the Kushaq continued this tradition and will be followed by the subcompact SUV using a similar nomenclature.

Skoda's new SUV will be based on the MQB-AO-IN platform, the same platform used for the Kushaq and Slavia. Both these models have received five-star safety ratings from the Global NCAP, indicating that the upcoming SUV is likely to prioritise safety as well. Skoda has mentioned that this new SUV will be its most affordable offering in India, with an expected starting price of under Rs 10 lakh.

The company has also announced a special reward for one lucky participant whose suggested name will be chosen for the SUV. This winner will not only see their nameplate on the SUV but also have the opportunity to own one and visit Skoda's headquarters in the Czech Republic, adding an exciting element to the SUV's launch anticipation.
