India launched its own New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) known as the Bharat NCAP which commenced on December 15 2023. Bharat NCAP has now announced that the results of the first tests are out. Tata Harrier and Tata Safari were recently launched in their 2023 facelift models and were the first vehicles ever to be sent for safety rating tests under the new Bharat NCAP programme. Both the Tata SUVs have passed with flying colours as they have received 5-star ratings in Bharat NCAP's crash test. Both SUVs received a 5-star rating under the Global NCAP programme as well.

Tata Harrier and Tata Safari scored 30.08 out of 32 for Adult Protection and 44.54 out of 49 for Child Protection. Both SUVs are equipped with safety features like seven airbags with six as standard in all variants, Electronic Stability Control, three-point seatbelts in all rows, seat belt reminders in all rows, ISOFIX child seat mounts and seatbelts equipped with retractor, pretensioner, load limiter, and anchor pretensioner. Additionally, the cabin structure of both the SUVs is strengthened to ensure consistent crash performance from all sides and enhanced protection in side pole impacts.
On this occasion, Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd said, “Bharat-NCAP is a significant step forward as it provides customers with a credible, objective score to evaluate the safety aspects of various vehicles. Informed customers taking optimal decisions will further foster the rising preference for safer vehicles in the country.”

After the successful completion of the first crash test under Bharat NCAP programme, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said, “Bharat NCAP is India's independent, atmanirbhar voice on vehicle safety. It is benchmarked to the best-in-class global standards and the Bharat-NCAP vehicle rating system is designed to advance road safety and vehicle safety standards beyond mandatory regulations. I'm delighted that the first ever vehicles being certified today with the highest achievable 5-star rating, are both from Tata Motors. I congratulate them on the award of this coveted certification with the highest possible ratings and for continuing to enrich their legacy of introducing the safest vehicles on Indian roads.”
