The subcompact SUV segment in India is thriving consistently owing to its expanding appeal among the population of the country. Automobile manufacturers are targeting the subcompact SUV segment because of its popularity as they are an ideal family car while also being affordable.

Hyundai recently launched the Hyundai Exter for the Indian market and it directly competes with Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in its segment. Tata Punch is among the most popular subcompact SUVs in the country as it has also received a 5-star rating in the GNCAP test making it one of the safest cars available at such an affordable price. Here’s a detailed comparison of the newly launched Hyundai Exter and the popular Tata Punch.

Hyundai Exter 

Performance - The Hyundai Exter is available with two engine options - a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine producing 83 bhp and 114 Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre petrol-CNG engine that delivers 69 bhp and 95 Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine offers a mileage of 19.4 km/l whereas 1.2-liter petrol+CNG engine delivers a mileage of 27.1 km/kg.

Features - In terms of features, the Hyundai Exter gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with over 60 connected car features. It includes a semi-digital driver's display, cruise control, wireless charging and automatic climate control. Additionally, the Exter offers a single-pane sunroof, a dash cam with dual cameras, and rain-sensing wipers.

Price - The Hyundai Exter is offered in five variants: EX, S, SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect and its prices range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Punch 

Performance -  The Tata Punch is equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates 88 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. The CNG variant of the Punch also uses the same engine but it is tuned to generate a power output of 73.5 bhp and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode. In terms of fuel efficiency, the petrol engine offers a mileage of 19-20 km/l and in the CNG mode the same engine delivers a mileage of 26.99km/kg.

Features -  The Tata Punch comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display incorporating connected car technology and a 7-inch semi-digital instrument panel. It also features automatic air conditioning and cruise control for better convenience and functionality

Price - The Tata Punch is available in four main variants: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. Pricing for the Tata Punch ranges from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
