Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Toyota has unveiled its entry-level Land Cruiser 4x4 off-road SUV, dubbed the FJ (Freedom & Joy). Designed for the 'new generation' of customers, the Land Cruiser FJ features the same platform as the larger Land Cruiser 250, but is sized similarly to the Defender 90. Currently a near-production concept vehicle, the entry-level Land Cruiser FJ will make its global debut in its production-spec guise at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show. Toyota will initially roll out the model in Japan in 2026, with other markets to follow soon.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Powertrain
Toyota has equipped the FJ prototype with a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which also powers the Toyota Fortuner. The engine is tuned to produce 161bhp and 246Nm and is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, offering optimised gearshifts. The vehicle also gets a four-wheel-drive system. Toyota might also bring a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine with mild-hybrid tech to other markets.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Features
The 5-seater FJ's cabin follows a functional design philosophy. It features a prominent 12.5-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and chunky physical buttons for main functions. Additionally, a 4x4 dial is conveniently located next to the gear shifter for easy access. Other notable features include a 3-spoke steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and ample storage.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Safety Equipment
The brand offers Toyota Safety Sense as standard, bringing lane keep assist, pre-collision braking, and adaptive cruise control. While yet to be revealed, the FJ SUV could also feature ESC, hill hold control, 7 airbags, and a 360-degree camera.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Design, Dimensions
The FJ boasts a boxy design, drawing inspiration from the Land Cruiser Prado. It offers two headlamp options - traditional round units or modern rectangular ones with C-shaped DRLs - both paired with a blacked-out grille featuring 'Toyota' lettering. The sides showcase rugged details, including thick cladding, squared-off wheel arches, and 17-inch alloys wrapped in all-terrain tyres.
Although specifics have yet to be revealed, the Land Cruiser FJ's ground clearance and approach and departure angles are expected to be on par with the Land Cruiser 250. The vehicle's distinctive C pillar, robust bumper, C-shaped tail lamps, and tailgate-mounted spare wheel define the rear fascia. Buyers will also have the option to customise their FJ with an extensive range of accessories, such as raised air intakes, rock rails, ARB roof racks, a snorkel, removable corner bumpers, and MOLLE panels to attach outdoor equipment.
In terms of dimensions, the Land Cruiser FJ is 4,575mm long, 1,855mm wide, and 1,960mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,580mm.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Will it Come to India?
It is too soon to tell whether Toyota will launch the FJ here, although there are reports that the brand is readying an off-roader for India. If Toyota India plans to bring the FJ, we do not expect it to arrive before 2027.
