Toyota NEO Steer
Toyota will also showcase a new steering wheel called the NEO Steer which is yoke-style steering. The NEO Steer technology will be showcased within the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV at the Japan Mobility Show. The NEO Steer looks more like the handlebars of a motorcycle and this special steering system has the controls for going faster and slowing down mounted on the steering wheel, so you don't need foot pedals anymore. It is designed for people who have trouble using their legs or have lower limb impairments, can drive the SUV using their hands.
On the new yoke-style NEO Steer, the new controls are placed on the right side of the steering wheel. These controls replace the acceleration and brake pedals, making it easier for drivers to get in and out of the vehicle. This isn't the first time Toyota has used a yoke-like setup in their cars. Toyota's luxury brand, Lexus, introduced something called 'Steer by wire' technology in their RZ EV SUV, which is basically a luxurious version of Toyota's popular bZ4X SUV. The Lexus RZ EV SUV utilizes the 'Steer by wire' technology, replacing a regular steering wheel. The steering wheel equipped in the Lexus RZ EV SUV is also a yoke-style device.
