Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota Motors has issued a recall for approximately one million cars in the US due to a potential issue with the airbags. The recall includes models from both Toyota and Lexus, manufactured between 2020 and 2022. Toyota has recalled popular models in the US market like the RAV4, Camry, Avalon, Highlander, Sienna, and Corolla. Moreover, several hybrid models are also included in the recall order.

According to Toyota, the underlying issue with these vehicles is linked to sensors in the front passenger seats that may have manufacturing defects. If there's a glitch, the sensor might not be able to determine the weight of the seated person, resulting in a situation where it may not deploy when needed.

All the recalled vehicles will undergo an inspection of the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors. If any faults are found, Toyota has assured that these sensors will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner. The company plans to initiate contact with affected customers from February 2024. However, owners of these vehicles are also encouraged to contact the official customer care centers of Toyota and Lexus in the US to know if their cars need to be inspected.

Car manufacturers in the US automotive market tend to act quickly when it comes to issuing recall orders, mainly due to the rigorous processes put in place by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In the past, some manufacturers were hesitant to recall vehicles, thinking it would damage their corporate image. However, the fear of substantial penalties has made brands more proactive in issuing recalls than ever before.
