Cyclone Michaung on Wednesday made its landfall off the Andhra Pradesh coast causing heavy rains and gusty winds across the state and neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Severe waterlogging was also witnessed in many parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Due to the increasing water levels in the low-lying areas, several vehicles were swept away. However, amid these conditions, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra Group, found a way to praise the Mahindra Thar. Anand Mahindra posted a video on his social media account, showing a Thar SUV driving its way through the flooded roads.

The tweet shared by Anand Mahindra read, "An Instagram post from Chennai that was forwarded to me... A sighting of an amphibious creature...". The creature that is being referred to is a black-colored Mahindra Thar equipped with a hard-top roof. The video showcases the Mahindra Thar effortlessly navigating through a flooded road. The overflowing water has submerged the headlamps and grille completely and there is no indication of the Thar being equipped with a snorkel. Mahindra Thar off-roader SUV boasts a commendable water-wading capacity of 650 mm.
However, despite the Thar's capability to navigate water-flooded roads, it is not recommended to drive through such conditions. Water contact with the vehicle's electronics can lead to a potential short circuit. If water enters the air intake, the engine may become hydrolocked which can cause significant damage. Repairing such damage could bring upon substantial costs, potentially requiring the engine to be rebuilt after water ingress. Additionally, there is a risk of the Engine Control Unit (ECU) getting damaged if exposed to water.
