Tesla Model Y Safety Rating: The 2025 iteration of the mid-size Tesla Model electric SUV has secured a perfect 5-star rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) safety tests. The mid-size electric SUV put to the test featured a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup and was one of 23 models to be tested by Euro NCAP. The 2025 Tesla Model Y is also available in India, starting at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the rear-wheel-drive configuration. Tesla had unveiled the facelifted Model Y for global markets in early 2025 before launching it in the Indian market. Let's have a closer look at the crash test safety results:
Tesla Model Y: Adult Occupant Protection Test
The 2025 Tesla Model Y scored 91 per cent in adult occupant protection tests, providing good to adequate protection in both frontal offset and full-width rigid barrier tests. Euro NCAP observed that the passenger compartment of the Tesla Model Y remained stable in the frontal offset test. In the side barrier test, the EV offered good protection to all critical body areas, scoring 15.3 out of 16 points. That said, dummy readings of the rib compression indicated marginal protection for the chest in the more severe side pole impact test, but good otherwise, according to Euro NCAP.
The Model Y was also equipped with a centre airbag, which was effective in preventing collisions in the event of a crash, while the excursion control was rated adequate. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed good protection against whiplash injuries during a rear-end collision. The EV had an advanced eCall system, which automatically alerts the emergency services in the event of a crash.

Tesla Model Y: Child Occupant Protection Test
In terms of protection for the 6-year- and 10-year-old dummies, the Model Y was awarded 16/16 for the frontal impact test, 8/8 for the side barrier test, 10/13 for safety features, and 12/12 for the installation of child restraint systems. In both the frontal offset and side barrier tests, protection of all critical body areas was good for both dummies.
The front passenger airbag could also be disabled for rearward-facing child seats, and all supportive child restraint systems could be accommodated and properly installed in the vehicle, according to Euro NCAP. The test model was equipped with a direct 'child presence detection' system, which issues a warning when it detects that a child or infant has been left in the vehicle
Tesla Model Y: Vulnerable Road User Protection, Safety Assist Systems
In the Vulnerable Road User protection, the Tesla Model Y received 86 per cent, demonstrating largely good or adequate protection to the head of a pedestrian/cyclist. However, the stiff windscreen pillars and the base of the screen recorded poor results. Protection offered to the pelvis and the femur was mixed, while the protection to the knees and lower legs was good or adequate at all test locations. The Model Y's autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well overall, with effective responses to pedestrians and cyclists as well as a good response to motorcyclists.
