A 25-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in a rented house in Satgama village in Jamui district, Bihar, under the Town Police Station area on Saturday night, reportedly after suffering heavy financial losses in online gambling.

The deceased has been identified as Aman Kumar, son of Indradev Prasad, a resident of Ward No. 20 under the Mokama Police Station in Patna district. According to police and local reports, Aman had lost around Rs 98,000 while gambling on cricket matches and other online games.

Police said Aman, the youngest of three brothers, had been working as a labourer in Gujarat, where he developed a gambling habit. During his stay there, he befriended a youth from Uttar Pradesh and used the latter’s mobile phone to place bets. After losing the money, the youth allegedly began pressuring Aman to return the amount. Aman had also borrowed money from several others, increasing his financial stress.

Unable to cope with mounting debts, Aman returned home from Gujarat and had been working at an MRF tyre shop in Satgama for the past 15 days. However, he continued receiving frequent calls demanding repayment, which reportedly pushed him into severe mental distress.

On Friday, the youth from Uttar Pradesh visited Mokama Police Station and later went with police personnel to Aman’s residence, where family members were trying to arrange the money. Police said Aman was aware of these developments.

On Saturday night, under intense pressure, Aman first attempted to cut his wrists but failed. He later died by hanging himself in his rented room.

After receiving information, Town Police reached the spot and shifted the body to Sadar Hospital around midnight. Family members were also informed. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
