Hyderabad News: A 27-year-old woman and her infant son were found dead at a house near Meerpet on Friday, in a case police believe is linked to ongoing domestic issues. The woman allegedly poisoned her child before taking her own life, officials said.
Police identified the woman as Sushmitha, who was married to Yashwanth Reddy, a chartered accountant. The couple had an 11-month-old son. According to initial information, the couple had been facing frequent disagreements in recent days.
The NDTV report cited Police as stating that, Sushmitha had visited her mother Lalitha’s house earlier in the day, reportedly for shopping related to a family event. While at the residence, she allegedly went into a room with her child and gave poison to him. She later died by suicide, police added.
The incident came to light in the evening when Yashwanth Reddy returned from work at around 9.30 PM. As the bedroom was locked from inside, he broke open the door and found his wife and son lying unconscious. Both were later declared dead, after which the police were informed.
Sushmitha’s mother, Lalitha, who discovered the bodies, was reportedly unable to cope with the shock and allegedly attempted suicide. She was immediately shifted to a local hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed by Sushmitha’s uncle, Bitha Sanjeeva Reddy. Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events.
Officials said preliminary findings suggest the deaths may be connected to marital disputes, though all angles are being examined. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and statements from family members and others are being recorded to establish further details.
Police said further action will be taken based on forensic reports and the outcome of the investigation.
