Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: Several political parties in Bihar have unanimously urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct the Bihar Assembly elections immediately after the Chhath festival. They also pressed for polling to be conducted in one phase or a maximum of two phases to avoid prolonged campaigning and logistical challenges.

The requests were put forward during a detailed interaction with the ECI on Saturday, the first day of the Commission’s three-day visit to the poll-bound state to review election preparedness.

The EC team, led by chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and two election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, held a meeting with representatives of 12 recognised national and regional parties in Bihar’s Patna, including Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, Janata Dal (United), and Rashtriya Janata Dal.

During the interaction, the EC described the political parties as “the foundation of democracy” and urged their active participation at every stage of the election process, including the appointment of polling and counting agents.

Representatives of the political parties thanked the EC for the successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The Election Commission on September 30 released the final voter list of Bihar. Upon the completion of the Bihar SIR exercise, 7.42 crore voters were found eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.

The Election Commission is scheduled to meet senior state officials to assess administrative and security preparations for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. A press conference is also expected to be held, where the poll body may share updates on the election process. The poll body also called on parties to approach the elections in a celebratory and inclusive spirit with the voters.
