The Bihar state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved several key proposals on Tuesday, including the launch of the Chief Minister's Fellowship Scheme. Under the fellowship scheme, 121 government personnel will receive training at IIM Bodh Gaya, which will also issue certificates.

Fellows will have the opportunity to work in top government offices, including the Chief Minister’s Office, Deputy Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Secretary’s Office, Development Commissioner’s Office, departmental offices in the Secretariat, Divisional Commissioner offices, and Municipal Commissioner offices. Monthly stipends will range from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,50,000 per student.

Other Key Cabinet Decisions

  • Leasing Urban Land for Government Schemes: A proposal was approved to lease land in cities for government projects, similar to existing practices in villages.
  • Revenue Staff Expansion: Creation of 3,303 additional posts for revenue staff approved.
  • Police Infrastructure: Installation of CCTV cameras in 176 police stations for Rs 280 crore.
  • Anganwadi Workers: Salary for Anganwadi workers and assistants increased.
  • Jeevika Projects: Construction of the Jeevika headquarters building in Patna for Rs 73.66 crore. Jeevika will also undertake bovine conservation under the newly approved Bihar Jeevika Godhan Sanrakshan evam Prabandhan Yojana.
  • Solar Street Lighting: Rs 100 crore sanctioned to complete solar street light projects in villages before the elections.
  • Crematorium Leases: A foundation granted a 33-year lease for gas-based crematoriums in six major cities.
  • Rural Drinking Water Scheme: Rs 594 crore allocated from the contingency fund to clear outstanding electricity dues for the Gramin Peyjal Nischay Yojana.
  • Chief Minister’s Kanya Vivah Mandap: Construction of marriage halls in 8,053 gram panchayats, with Rs 50 crore sanctioned for the scheme.

The cabinet also approved 25 proposals in total, signalling a strong push toward infrastructure development, welfare schemes, and administrative strengthening across the state.
