In a significant push towards rural development and nutrition support, the Bihar government has approved the establishment of five new dairy plants and sanctioned funds for purchasing utensils for Anganwadi centres. The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, where a total of 41 proposals were cleared.
To boost agriculture-linked industries and strengthen the rural economy, the government will set up dairy plants in Rohtas, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Gaya, and Sitamarhi. An estimated Rs 317 crore will be spent on these projects under the SIDBI Cluster Development Fund (SCDF).

According to Additional Chief Secretary Dr S Siddharth, each dairy plant will process between 1–2 lakh litres of milk daily, while facilities in Rohtas and Sitamarhi will produce 30 metric tonnes of milk powder per day.
The cabinet has also approved a budget of Rs 115.90 crore for the purchase of utensil sets for 1,15,990 Anganwadi centres under the Saksham Anganwadi and Nutrition 2.0 scheme. The procurement will be carried out through e-tendering, aimed at improving the basic infrastructure at these centres.
In a move towards social justice and inclusion, the state government has formed the Bihar State Safai Karamchari Commission. The body will work for the socio-economic upliftment, welfare, and rights protection of sanitation workers from deprived communities. The commission will focus on rehabilitation, monitoring, and integration of these workers into the mainstream.
The cabinet revised the earlier sanctioned amount of Rs 120.58 crore to Rs 165.57 crore for land acquisition related to the Punauradham temple project in Sitamarhi district. The revised amount will facilitate the acquisition of 50.50 acres of land to develop the religious site.
These decisions reflect the government’s focus on rural infrastructure, inclusive development, and enhanced public service delivery.
