Delhi News: In a major step towards reducing the traffic congestion in the Outer Ring Road region, the Delhi government is planning to build two flyovers in the upcoming months. The state government has reportedly demanded Rs 427 crores for the construction of the flyover under the ambitious Corridor Redevelopment Project. The government stated that the construction of the flyover will provide relief to the commuters travelling from IIT to Modi Mill. Earlier last week, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that several steps are scheduled to be taken in the upcoming months to boost the regional connectivity in the national capital.
While providing details, the officials stated that the flyover will improve the connectivity between South Delhi and several other regions, including IGI Airport, Faridabad, and Badarpur. The proposed flyover in the region has already been approved by UTIPAC (Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Center) in 2019. The commuters travelling from Modi Mill to IIT Gate face severe traffic congestion, leading to inconveniences.
The officials stated that the proposed flyover will start from Savitri Cinema junction and connect the road towards Chirag Delhi and South Extension. They further stated that the flyover will work in coordination with the existing structure and will facilitate traffic in both directions, providing relief to the commuters. Earlier last year, the Public Works Department (PWD) had sent the file for this project to the Expenditure and Finance Committee (EFC) of the government after taking permission from all the concerned agencies.
While the report was submitted on time, the project got further delayed due to unknown reasons. The officials stated that thousands of commuters will get relief from traffic congestion on a daily basis after the flyover is built. Due to continuous rainfall, these regions have been witnessing waterlogging, leading to slow vehicular movements.
