The Bihar government has approved a budget of Rs 23.56 crore for the third phase (2025–26) of the Traditional Agriculture Development Scheme (PKVY) under the Namami Gange Swachhata Abhiyan. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Tuesday.

Of the total allocation, Rs 14.13 crore will come from the central share, while Rs 9.42 crore will be contributed by the state. The initiative targets panchayats in 12 districts situated along the Ganga riverBegusarai, Patna, Samastipur, Buxar, Saran, Katihar, Bhojpur, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Munger, Vaishali, and Lakhisarai.

The scheme promotes organic farming by providing grants to farmers of up to two hectares for organic input costs, training, and PGS-based certification. An assistance of Rs 16,500 per hectare will be directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts, while service providers will receive Rs 2,500 per hectare on recommendation from the District Agriculture Officer and consent from the Joint Director (Chemical), Compost and Biogas, Patna.

This centrally sponsored scheme follows a 60:40 cost-sharing model between the Centre and the State. Initially launched in 2021–22 over 14,000 hectares across 700 groups, the third phase will continue with the same farmers involved in the first two years. The initiative aims to revive traditional farming practices and promote the cleanliness of the Ganga river through sustainable agriculture.
