The Bihar government has issued an order to start the first phase of the Chief Minister Block Transport Scheme, which aims to connect the blocks and remote panchayats with the district headquarters in the state. The Transport Department Secretary instructed all the District Magistrates to select the beneficiaries and provide them with grants for the purchase of buses by January, next month. 

The scheme will offer a grant of Rs 5 lakh to seven beneficiaries per block for the purchase of buses, excluding the district headquarters blocks. The beneficiaries will be selected from different categories, such as Scheduled Caste, extremely backward class, backward class, minority community and general category.

According to the notification issued by the transport department, training and awareness programs regarding the scheme will also be conducted from December 5 to 19.

The selection process will involve the following steps:

  • Blockwise application from December 5 to 27

  • Priority list by the District Transport Officer by December 28

  • Selection by the committee under the DM on December 29

  • Objection and final list from January 2 to 6

  • Selection letters by the District Transport Officer by January 8 and 9

After the application process is completed, the selected candidate will receive their grants within seven days.

The Transport Department has also asked all DTOs to organise vehicle fairs at the block level with the help of block development officers. This will help the beneficiaries to buy buses from authorised dealers and get financing from banks and financial institutions. The vehicle fairs will also create awareness among the general public about the scheme and its benefits.
