Bihar:  In a major announcement on Wednesday, the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a significant increase in the incentives of Asha and Mamta workers ahead of the Legislative Assembly elections in Bihar, which is expected to be held in October or November this year. In a post on X, Bihar CM announced the increase while honouring the contributions of Asha and Mamta workers in strengthening health services in rural areas.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister informed that ASHA workers will now be provided with an incentive amount of Rs 3,000 instead of Rs 1,000, whereas the Mamta workers will be provided with an incentive amount of Rs 600 per delivery instead of Rs 300.

“Since the formation of the government in November 2005, we have worked extensively to improve health services. Asha and Mamta workers have played an important role in improving health services in rural areas. Keeping this in mind and honouring the important contribution of Asha and Mamta workers in strengthening health services in rural areas, it has been decided to increase their honorarium,” Nitish Kumar posted on X.

He further wrote, “Asha workers will now be provided an incentive of Rs 3,000 instead of Rs 1,000. Also, Mamta workers will be provided an incentive of Rs 600 instead of Rs 300 per delivery, which will further boost their morale and health services in rural areas will be strengthened.”

Earlier this week, Nitish Kumar announced a significant hike in the monthly pension benefits of all eligible journalists and their spouses under the ‘Bihar Patrakaar Samman Pension Scheme’. These major announcements by the Bihar government come ahead of the legislative Assembly Elections in Bihar, which are likely to take place in October or November this year. However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the dates.
