Bihar: Divisions, Districts Allotted To 896 BPSC-Recommended Headteachers, List Released

Divisions and districts have been allotted to 896 candidates recommended by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) for appointment as headteachers in the state’s upgraded and newly established higher secondary schools. The allocation has been made based on merit-cum-choice. The list has also been released by the Education Department.

Of the total candidates, 77 had already joined their posts as headteachers and have now been assigned new divisions and districts. Director (Primary) of the Education Department, Vikram Virkar, has issued instructions to all districts in this regard.

According to the department, divisions and districts were initially allotted on 30 June last year to candidates recommended by BPSC. This was followed by the allocation of blocks (prakhands) on July 11, after which schools within the allotted blocks were assigned through a software-based randomisation process.

Later, on 29 August, candidates who had completed counselling but failed to join their allotted schools were given another opportunity to resubmit their preferences. They were asked to provide three preferred division-district options through the e-Shikshakosh portal between September 1 and 10. During the same period, grievances were also invited from candidates who had already joined but sought a change in their division, district, or block.

By the end of the application window, 819 candidates had resubmitted their preferences, while 77 candidates submitted grievances. Together, these cases amounted to 896 candidates.

A committee constituted to review the division-district allocation for these candidates considered the matter and approved fresh allocations through software, strictly following the merit-cum-choice principle. Based on this process, divisions were recommended in line with the first, second, and third preferences submitted by the candidates, and the final list has now been published.
