Following a missed deadline for road repairs, District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen ordered a massive two-day inspection campaign to assess the quality and maintenance of rural roads across the district. The inspection was prompted after the September 15 deadline to repair all dilapidated roads was not met, an issue previously highlighted in reports by the newspaper Jagran.

A team of 117 administrative and technical officials inspected a total of 465 roads and bridges managed by the Rural Works Department. These projects fall under several government initiatives, including the Rural Road Strengthening and Management Programme, the Chief Minister's Village Connectivity Scheme, and the Chief Minister's Rural Bridge Scheme. A comprehensive report on the findings is now being prepared for submission to the District Development Branch, which will determine further action.

Preliminary findings have already revealed that work on numerous projects is incomplete. The inspection data shows significant gaps between allocated work and completed tasks across various divisions:

East Division One: Out Of 235 roads allocated for strengthening, work has started on 231, but patching is complete on only 170.

East Division Two: Out Of 136 roads, work and patching are complete on 107. Of the four bridges sanctioned, one is ongoing, two are halted due to river flooding, and one is pending alignment.

West Division: Out Of 337 roads, work has commenced on 271, with patching completed on 239. Of 16 roads under the connectivity scheme, work has started on only eight. Four sanctioned bridges are still in the tendering process.
