Universities will receive Rs 126.34 crore in the new financial year under the PM USHA scheme to promote research and innovation. Patna University and Lalit Narayan Mithila University have been granted Rs 100 crore each. The central government has agreed to provide around Rs 283.20 crore for the development of higher education.

In response to delays by universities in executing centrally sponsored education schemes, the Bihar Education Department has taken a proactive step by preparing its action plan for the timely implementation of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and PM-USHA (University Grants Commission's Scheme for Higher Education). The department will now oversee and guide universities in carrying out these schemes effectively.

Efforts are also being intensified to ensure full implementation of the PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) Yojana, under which around 1,500 schools across Bihar have been selected by the Central Government for development. The Education Department is expected to approach the Centre soon with a request for financial support to execute these initiatives.

To support research and innovation under the PM-USHA scheme in the new financial year, Bihar’s state universities will receive Rs 126.34 crore. Notably, the Centre has already approved a grant of Rs 100 crore each to Patna University and Lalit Narayan Mithila University.

In total, the central government has sanctioned approximately Rs 283.20 crore for the overall improvement of higher education infrastructure in the state, marking a significant development in Bihar’s education sector.

A senior official from the Directorate of Higher Education said the funds will be used for curriculum upgrades, faculty training, and enhancement of digital infrastructure and employability in universities and colleges.

These measures align with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which the state is committed to implementing fully for the benefit of institutions and students alike.
