Bihar Election 2025: As the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 concludes and with just a day left for the second phase on November 11, all eyes are now on the Bhagalpur district, where the political battle is once again in full swing. With results scheduled for November 14, the fight across seven assembly constituencies has become a test of prestige, tradition, and public sentiment.

Five seats in the district are witnessing direct contests between two major candidates, while two others have turned into multi-cornered battles, adding intensity to the race. In Kahalgaon and Gopalpur, the entry of former MLAs contesting as independents has complicated the equations. Though campaigning has formally ended, political activity remains at its peak as voters weigh promises, caste dynamics, and development agendas.

Traditional parties are fighting hard to retain their bastions, while new entrants like Jan Suraj aim to carve a foothold. A total of 82 candidates are in the fray across the seven constituencies, each with distinct arithmetic and narratives that reflect Bihar’s diverse democratic pulse.

Bhagalpur Assembly: Same Face, Same Competition

A repeat of 2020, Congress’s Ajit Sharma and BJP’s Rohit Pandey face off once again in Bhagalpur. Sharma narrowly won by 1,130 votes last time. The Congress banks on M-Y and Pachpaunia voters, while the BJP counts on Vaishya and upper-caste support. Jan Suraj’s Abhay Kant Jha adds a third dimension, making the contest triangular among 12 candidates.

Pirpainti Assembly: Paswan VS Paswan

A direct BJP-RJD contest, Pirpainti sees BJP’s Murari Paswan (replacing Lallan Kumar) pitted against RJD’s Ram Vilas Paswan, who lost in 2020. Jan Suraj’s Ghanshyam Das makes his debut, drawing attention from tribal, Ravidas, and Gangota voters who hold the balance of power.

Nathnagar Assembly: Changed Equations

This time, the RJD has fielded former bureaucrat Z. Hasan, while LJP (Ram Vilas) has nominated Mithun Kumar, the District Council Chairman. Jan Suraj’s Ajay Kumar Rai completes a triangular fight among 15 candidates. With the RJD targeting M-Y and upper-caste voters and the LJP focusing on Dalit-Yadav alliances, Nathnagar remains unpredictable.

Sultanganj Assembly: Development VS Caste

A triangular battle between JDU’s Lalit Narayan Mandal, Congress’s Lalan Kumar, and RJD’s Chandan Kumar defines Sultanganj. Jan Suraj’s Rakesh Kumar is also contesting. The JDU stresses development, while Congress and RJD rally around caste alliances — making this contest one of development versus identity politics.

Kahalgaon Assembly: Rebel Factor Complicates Equations

Kahalgaon faces a four-cornered battle with JDU’s Shubhanand Mukesh, Congress’s Praveen Singh, RJD’s Rajneesh Bharti, and Independent rebel Pawan Kumar Yadav. Jan Suraj’s Manzar Alam and BSP’s Bhavesh Kumar further crowd the field of 13 candidates. Rebel activism and shifting caste loyalties make Kahalgaon’s outcome highly uncertain.

Bihpur Assembly: BJP VS VIP - Old Allies Face Off

In Bihpur, it’s a direct clash between BJP’s Kumar Shailendra and VIP’s Arpana Kumari, backed by the Grand Alliance. Interestingly, former RJD leader Shailesh Kumar (now JDU) supports the BJP. With 10 candidates contesting, upper-caste and Dalit voters may decide this keenly watched race.

Gopalpur Assembly: Fierce JDU-VIP Contest

In Gopalpur, JDU’s Shailesh Kumar, VIP’s Prem Sagar, Jan Suraj’s Mankeshwar Singh, and Independent MLA Narendra Neeraj are in a tight four-way contest. Caste alignments, Vaishya, Gangota, Dalit, and Mallah voters, hold the key. The influence of former MLA Gopal Mandal adds another twist to this high-stakes political drama.
