Bihar Election 2025: In a major update regarding the upcoming Bihar assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal United (JDU), two leading parties of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), are reportedly not on the same page regarding the scheduling of the polls. While the BJP has urged the Election Commission to conduct the polls in one or two phases, the party led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has demanded to conduct the polls in a single phase. Earlier on Saturday, the poll body had conducted a meeting with the major parties of the state to take suggestions ahead of announcing the schedule.
The JDU reportedly demanded to conduct the election in a single phase by citing the good law and order of the state. It also asserted that the election in Maharashtra was also conducted in a single phase, adding that the western state has a greater number of seats. However, the BJP stated that the polls should be conducted in a maximum of two phases, as it would cut the expenditure and other disruptions.
JDU working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, while providing details, stated that conducting the polls in a single phase should not be an issue due to the good functioning of law and order. "We urged the EC to hold assembly elections in a single phase. It is possible. The state has no law and order problem, nor is it in the throes of Naxal violence. If elections could be held in a single phase in Maharashtra, why not here?" Jha told reporters after the meeting.

However, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal stated that the election process should not be staggered, adding that the BJP has also demanded to conduct the polls in a maximum of two phases. "We have urged the Election Commission to conduct the elections in one or two phases. The election process need not be staggered," Jaiswal was quoted as saying by PTI.
