Bihar Rain Update:At least 20 people died and several got injured in separate incidents in Bihar due to severe rainfall on Saturday, the officials informed. While 13 people lost their lives due to lightning in different parts of the state, seven died after big trees fell on them. Apart from this, the continuous rainfall affected the transportation in multiple cities after the trees fell on the roads and the railway tracks. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday stated that several districts are likely to witness rainfall for the next few days.

It also advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences. While providing details, the officials stated that three people died in Jehanabad, two in Bhojpur, two in Bettiah, two in Aurai of Muzaffarpur, and one each in Gopalganj, Nalanda, Kishanganj, and Khagaria due to lightning. They further stated that at least seven people died in several districts after trees fell on them, leading to severe injuries.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed his condolences and announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 4 lakh to the kins of the deceased; however, the chief minister only mentioned about five deaths in his post.

"The death of 5 people due to lightning strikes in the state is extremely tragic. Instructions have been given to immediately provide four lakh rupees each as an ex-gratia grant to the families of the deceased. An appeal has been made to the people to exercise complete vigilance in bad weather and to follow the instructions issued by the Disaster Management Department," CM Nitish Kumar stated in his post on X (formerly Twitter).

The weather department stated that several districts, including Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Gaya, and Jehanabad, are set to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few days.
