Khesari Lal Yadav Profile: The Chapra Assembly seat, which falls under the Saran Lok Sabha constituency, is considered a strong bastion of the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP registered victories here in the last three Bihar Assembly elections in 2010, 2015 and 2020. To challenge this dominance, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has fielded Bhojpuri actor and singer Khesari Lal Yadav on the seat.
This time, the contest is between two new faces as BJP has also named a new candidate, Chhoti Kumari, who previously served as the District Council President. The voting for the Chapra Vidhan Sabha constituency is set to take place in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections on November 6.
Earlier, it was considered almost certain that Khesari's wife, Chanda Devi, would be made the candidate from this seat, but at the last moment, the party gave the ticket to Khesari.
Candidate Profile: Khesari Lal Yadav
Popular Bhojpuri singer and actor Khesari Lal Yadav's real name is Shatrughan Yadav. The 39-year-old was born on March 15, 1986, in Dhanadih Village, Chapra (Saran), Bihar.
Due to financial problems, his father, Mangaru Lal Yadav, sold goods on the roadside and also worked as a security guard at night. At one time, Khesari grazed cattle and sold milk to support his family. Later, he moved to Delhi and began selling Litti-Chokha to support his large family. Khesari Lal Yadav currently has two children.
Khesari Lal: Entertainment Career
Before entering the entertainment industry, Khesari Lal was a folk artist who performed in local theatre, in plays such as Ramayana and Mahabharata. He was also proficient in ‘Launda Nach’, a traditional folk dance form from Bihar.
In 2011, he made his film debut with "Saajan Chale Sasural”. The movie was a massive blockbuster and established him as a leading actor in Bhojpuri cinema overnight. His fame extended beyond the Bhojpuri-speaking belt when he participated in the popular national reality show "Bigg Boss 13" in 2019.

Shatrughan Yadav alias Khesari Lal Yadav officially entered politics in October 2025 and joined Rashriya Janata Dal ( RJD). He is contesting from Chapra (Saran) in Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.
