Bihar Election 2025: In an unpredictable cultural turn, the Bihar assembly election 2025 turned Halloween vs Chhath on Monday, November 3, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the opposition and the Lalu family of celebrating all international festivals and calling Chhath a drama. In a political onslaught, PM Modi sought to frame the opposition Mahagathbandhan of the RJD, Congress and others as being anti-Hinduism.
The farmer wing of the BJP also made a post on X, claiming that Lalu Yadav calls Chhath a drama but celebrates Halloween. It was alleged by the BJP that RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's family insulted the traditional Chhath by celebrating Halloween.

During several NDA campaign events, Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah unleashed fierce criticism against the opposition, charging them with undermining Hindu festivals while favouring Western influences and 'infiltrators.'
Lalu Seen Celebrating Halloween With Grandchildren
A video was shared by Rohini Acharya, showing veteran leader Lalu Yadav celebrating Halloween with his grandchildren at home. The visuals showed Lalu's grandchildren dressed in costumes, including one as a Grim Reaper, while Yadav laughed with them.
Immediately reacting to the video, the BJP reminded Lalu Yadav's remark from February, where he said that the Kumbh Pomp was meaningless.
The BJP’s farmers’ wing wrote on X: “Don’t forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who called the grand festival of faith and spirituality Kumbh useless, and is now celebrating the foreign festival Halloween."
Bihar Election: Amit Shah Intensifies Anti-Hindu Angle Against Opposition
Intensifying the line of attack against the opposition, Amit Shah linked the RJD-Congress to an insult against the Chhath festival, which is mainly celebrated in Bihar and concluded recently.
Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi has just insulted Chhathi Maiya (mother deity).” He was referring to Gandhi's claim that PM Modi got a clean pond created for himself next to the polluted Yamuna in BJP-ruled Delhi to “do drama” on Chhath. “This time, along with Modi, you have insulted Chhathi Maiya,” he added.
PM Modi Weighs In
PM Modi also weighed in, reiterating the drama remark by Gandhi. During an election gathering in Katihar, the PM accused the RJD and Congress of being disrespectful towards Chhath Puja.

“RJD and Congress members call the worship of Chhathi Maiya a gimmick, a drama. These people have no idea about the power of Surya Dev. The Congress leader insulted Chhath Maiya, and the people of Bihar took out their anger on the RJD and made them lose. You have punished them once, and you will do it again," he said.
