Ratnesh Sada Profile: Ratnesh Sada, a three-time Janata Dal (United) MLA from the Sonbarsha Vidhan Sabha seat in the Saharsa district, is once again in the poll battle as his party backed the old horse in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025. Sada is a prominent Dalit face of the ruling party.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's party gave him a ticket from the Sonbarsha assembly seat in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha electtion 2025, which is a reserved (SC) assembly constituency and part of the Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency. The Sonbarsha Assembly constituency will vote on November 6 in the first phase of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha election 2025, of which the result will be announced on November 14. He has been instrumental in building electoral ground for his party in the Sonbarsha seat, as it was a stronghold of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Ratnesh Sada, who registered three victories - 2010, 2015 and 2025 - in the Bihar Assembly elections, is facing anti-incumbency, as Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) has been in power since 2005. In the Bihar Assembly Elections 2020, he defeated the Congress candidate, Tarni Rishideo, with a margin of 13,466 votes. He received 67,678 votes (40.20 per cent).

In his constituency, he is very popular as he journeyed from a rickshaw puller to a minister, which is an inspiration for this community, Extremely Backwards Caste (EBC). Currently, Sada was inducted into the Cabinet in June 2023. He served as a minister for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare; however, next year his portfolio was changed to the Excise and Prohibition, a ministry that remained a centre of criticism due to hooch deaths and liquor smuggling in the dry state.
54-year-old JD(U) leader, Ratnesh Sada, son of Lachhmi Sada, is a 12th Pass (HSC). He belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC), the Sada community (Musahar). He first won the Sonbarsha seat from RJD in 2010. Sada continued his winning streak in the 2015 and 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections. He became a minister for the first time in June 2023.
According to the Election Commission of India, he owned assets worth Rs 3.57 crore, with immovable assets valued at over Rs 2.56 crore. He has total assets of Rs over Rs 3 crore and immovable assets over Rs 2.5 crore. The JD(U) leader has declared liabilities of Rs over 47 lakh.
The Bihar minister has one criminal case on his name registered during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections under the BNS Sections 341, 323, 504, 34.
