Tejashwi Yadav Profile: With just a few days remaining in the voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, all the political parties are campaigning tirelessly to lure the voters. One of the most discussed candidates is Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial face and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav. The former deputy chief minister is contesting from the Raghopur Assembly constituency, looking to secure a hat trick from the seat once dominated by his parents and former chief ministers Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi. Yadav had started his political career by registering a convincing victory on the same seat at the age of 25 in 2015 Bihar Vidhan Sabha elections.
Will Tejashwi Face A Challenge This Time?
While the RJD leader has been winning the seat comprehensively in the last two Bihar Assembly polls, he might face a stronger challenge this time due to several factors, including anti-incumbency (for MLA) and the entry of the Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) in the fray. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Satish Kumar Yadav, Chanchal Kumar is contesting on the JSP ticket, making the contest triangular.
Tejashwi Yadav Background: Net Worth, Family, Political Career, Education Qualification
Tejashwi Yadav belongs to one of the most politically significant families of the state, with its strong presence in the past four decades. While his father, Lalu Yadav, remained the chief minister for seven years, his mother, Rabri Devi, also handled the post for more than five years. According to Tejashwi's latest affidavit, which he submitted to the Election Commission, the RJD leader has more than Rs 8 crores of property.
Tejashwi did not pursue his formal education after Class 9 to focus on cricket, his passion. The RJD leader became the deputy chief minister at the age of 25 after the Mahagathbandhan won the 2015 Bihar Assembly election under the leadership of JDU leader Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Yadav.
Raghopur Assembly Seat: A Bastion For Lalu-Rabri Family
One of the most highlighted seats, Raghopur Assembly constituency is a part of the Vaishali district and has a total of 3,44,369 voters, as per the data of the Election Commission in the 2020 Assembly election. While there are 1,85,106 male voters in the Assembly constituency, there are a total of 1,59,258 female voters and five voters of the third gender.
The Yadav community is one of the most dominant caste groups in Raghopur and is considered loyal to the RJD. Apart from the 2010 Assembly election, the seat has been dominated by the Lalu-Rabri family for more than two decades. While Lalu Yadav registered a victory in 2000 election, Rabri Devi won in 2000 (by-poll) and 2005 Assembly election.
While Tejashwi won the 2015 Bihar Assembly election with a margin of 22,733 votes, he retained the seat by defeating the BJP candidate Satish Kumar by more than 38,000 votes in the 2020 Assembly election.
