While the BJP performed impressively in the Bihar assembly elections and gained an edge on most seats, the party also faced disappointment as some candidates lost by extremely narrow margins.

Out of 101 BJP candidates, 12 came very close to victory. On many seats, the margin was so small that the contest remained exciting until late at night, with some candidates losing by only a few dozen or hundreds of votes.

BJP Trailing Candidates

Ramgarh: The contest was extremely exciting, with Ashok Singh (BJP) losing to Satish Kumar Yadav (BSP) by a mere 30 votes.

Dhaka: Pawan Jaiswal (BJP) faced defeat by just 178 votes.

Forbesganj: Vidya Sagar Keshari (BJP) was defeated by Congress candidate Manoj Vishwas by an extremely narrow margin of 221 votes.

Champatia: Umakant Singh (BJP) lost by only 602 votes.

Saharsa: Alok Ranjan (BJP) suffered a defeat by 2,038 votes.

Goh: Dr Raviranjan (BJP) trailed by 4,041 votes.

Warisaliganj: Aruna Devi (BJP) lost to Anita (RJD) by 7,543 votes.

Bisfi: Haribhushan Thakur (BJP) was defeated by Asif Ahmed (RJD) by 8,107 votes.

Kishanganj: Sweety Singh (BJP) lost to QamrulHoda (Congress) by 12,794 votes.

Raghopur: In a tough contest, the BJP's Satish Kumar was defeated by Tejashwi Yadav (RJD) by 14,532 votes.

Baisi: Vinod Kumar (BJP) was defeated by Ghulam Sarwar (AIMIM) by a large margin of 27,251 votes. 

Kochadhaman: Bina Devi (BJP) finished in third place. Sarwar Alam (AIMIM) secured victory with 81,860 votes.

Congress Performance

On the other hand, of the 61 candidates fielded by the Congress, only six were able to secure a victory.

Winning Congress Candidates:

  • Surendra Prasad
  • Abhishek Ranjan
  • Manoj Vishwas
  • Abidur Rahman
  • Qamrul Hoda
  • Manohar Prasad Singh

Specific Congress Wins:

Valmiki Nagar: Surendra Prasad defeated Rinku Singh (JDU) by 1,675 votes.

Araria: Abidur Rahman secured a victory by 12,741 votes.

Manohar Prasad Singh also registered a win with a strong lead of 15,168 votes.
