Bihar Election Result: The results for the Bihar Assembly election were announced on Friday, giving a landslide majority to the Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The incumbent alliance registered victory on 202 out of the total 243 assembly seats, while the Mahagathbandhan could only manage to win 35 seats. The contest on most of the seats was directly between the NDA and the opposition alliance, suggesting that there was very little scope for the third front. Several parties, including the newly formed Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj, Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM, and Tej Pratap Yadav's Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), were contesting to offer the third option to the voters.
While the third front leaders, especially Prashant Kishor, raised the issue of lack of political options in the state, the results suggest that the voters chose to vote for the traditional parties. While Jan Suraaj could not even manage to open its account, the party even struggled to retain the second spot in most of the constituencies. JSP candidate Naveen Kumar Singh remained at the second position in the Madhaura constituency; however, LJP's candidate Seema Singh's nomination was rejected for this seat by the Election Commission.
Apart from this, Janshakti Janata Dal also could not lure the voters, as most of the candidates, including Tej Pratap Yadav, could not even challenge the traditional parties. While Owaisi's AIMIM managed to register victory in five constituencies, all of them were in the Seemanchal region. Apart from this, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) remained in the second position in the Ramgarh Assembly constituency. The main reasons behind the poor performance of the third options could be polarisation of votes, and caste factor, reported Jagran.Com.
Earlier in the 2020 Assembly election, while the NDA managed to win 125 seats, the opposition alliance could win 110 seats. Apart from this, Owaisi's AIMIM won five seats, BSP could win one, and the Chirag Paswan-led LJP also managed to win one seat.
